About Vienna

Viennese culture

Magnificent, dark, cheerful, thoughtful. Many musicians have been inspired by Vienna in their songs for centuries - from Johann Strauss to Reinhard Fendrich and Billy Joel. And Austria's capital and its history are just as diverse as these musical declarations of love.

Like most major cities, the metropolis with its 1.7 million inhabitants also benefits from city tourism. In Vienna, this mainly revolves around sightseeing and coffee house culture. In summer, the gardens of the inns and wine taverns attract visitors, in winter the museums boom. Vienna also offers a wide range of accommodation: from posh luxury hotels in the city center to small guesthouses in the suburbs.

Golfing in and around Vienna

There are a good 20 golf courses in and around Vienna, from public 9-hole courses with inexpensive green fees from 19 euros to exclusive 18-hole courses. Selected golf tips from the editors:

Fontana Golf Club

Turquoise blue water and white sand like in the Caribbean: the Fontana Golf Club in Oberwaltersdorf, just a few minutes' drive from the city center, is definitely the flagship of golfing opportunities in and around Vienna. The 18-hole course was opened in 1997, is now one of the most exclusive courses in Europe and has even played host to the European Tour.
A ten-hectare lake on the two final holes is the hallmark of this challenging course. Golfers can expect plenty of variety on the almost 6,000-meter Champions Course. While the first nine holes offer rather wide fairways, the second nine holes are tighter. Most of the greens are very well guarded - by numerous bunkers and water hazards.

Tip: Anyone staying at the Marriott Hotel in Vienna receives a free green fee for the Fontana Golf Club.

Vienna Golf Club

The Golf Club WieninFreudenau is perfectly embedded in the landscape, located in the middle of the Praterauen on the grounds of the racecourse. Golf has been played there since 1949. A 15-minute drive away is the Golfclub Wien-Süßenbrunn, in the middle of the former Maria Theresia estates. The 18-hole course was built as a links course and is therefore something very special.

Vienna-Süßenbrunn Golf Club

Away from the hustle and bustle of the metropolis, the Vienna-Süßenbrunn Golf Club in the north of the city is a place of peace and tranquillity. The 18 holes of the club's par-72 course are beautifully integrated into the landscape and just 15 minutes from Vienna's city center. The course is suitable for both beginners and advanced players.

Marco Polo Golf Club

Those who prefer a more leisurely pace don't have to travel far. There are three 9-hole courses right in the center of Vienna: at first glance, the Marco Polo Golf Club with its par 31 course is not a great challenge. But the details are different, as the fairways are narrow and the greens are small and closely guarded.

Golf & Country Club am Wienerberg

The course at the Golfclub am Wienerberg is similarly treacherous. The view of the surrounding high-rise buildings and skyscrapers is particularly special - almost like a US metropolis. Third in the group is the course at Citygolf Vienna, which is just two years old. The course is designed to be beginner-friendly, but is also recommended for advanced players, especially for practising the short game.
