Austria is one of the most popular vacation destinations in Europe. The Alpine republic attracts visitors with its charming landscape, impressive scenery, majestic mountains and clear lakes and a full range of cultural and sporting activities. Tourism plays a major role in all nine federal states and the entire country is fully developed for tourism, with both the summer and winter seasons well covered.
Golf in Austria looks back on a long tradition and is now supported by a large number of clubs, which, among other things, put a lot of thought into public relations and try to bring golf closer to many people. Taster courses are offered, advertising refers to the health benefits of golf and various clubs are working to establish golf as a popular sport.
There are well over 170 golf courses in Austria, some of them in very exclusive locations. The attractive surroundings certainly play a major role, as it is a special feeling to swing a golf club against the impressive alpine backdrop. Golf tourism plays a major role in Austria. Under the motto "Golfing in Austria", tourist offices and other official bodies, as well as golf clubs and private initiatives, make every effort to attract golf tourists.
A golf vacation in Austria therefore promises truly unforgettable vacation experiences. It doesn't matter whether you are a beginner or interested in getting an overview or an experienced golfer looking for a suitable destination - Austria has an incredibly wide range to offer when it comes to golf tourism.
Austria is an ancient land of culture. European history has been linked to the history of Austria for more than 1000 years, because for centuries Austria provided the emperors who guided the destiny of the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation. The Habsburg dynasty produced such legendary emperors and empresses as Maria Theresa and Franz Josef I. The unforgettable Sisi, the fairytale empress, whose beauty was already famous during her lifetime, is particularly well known.
Austria is a popular destination for both winter and summer vacations. Golf tourism naturally plays a major role in the summer season, while skiers and winter sports enthusiasts get their money's worth in the winter season. In summer, Austria is predestined for a hiking vacation, a swimming vacation on one of the clear, well-maintained lakes is just as attractive as a riding vacation, for example, and last but not least, Austria is a popular destination for city breaks, as it is not only the charming capital of Vienna that offers tourists unforgettable experiences.
Austria is always in season, so it is impossible to recommend the best time to visit. It depends on your personal wishes and ideas as to which travel time you prefer. Winter sports enthusiasts will prefer the months when there is guaranteed snow, while golfers will certainly prefer the summer months. Austria has a continental climate with four distinct seasons. The weather is relatively stable depending on the season, with extensive snowfall in winter, at least at higher altitudes, and typically warm summers. There is no time difference between Germany and Austria. Austria also uses European summer time with the annual confusing time change in March and October.
The official currency in Austria is the euro, so there is no need to convert the local currency, which is often a nuisance for holidaymakers. Payment methods are very similar to those in Germany; you can pay with EC cards and credit cards almost everywhere. As in Germany, tips are given in restaurants and on similar occasions at around 10% of the bill. The Visa card can be used almost everywhere. Austria has excellent transport connections, almost every large city can be reached by plane, or at least via a very well-developed highway. The rail network is also above average and local public transport is excellent, at least in the major cities. Travelers can reach Austria by plane, train, car and even by ship. The official language of the country is German, although typical local dialects predominate.
Politeness is very important in Austria. Even if the "kiss the hand" has been downgraded to a cliché, there is an overall chevalier attitude that you should also display as a guest in this beautiful country. Austria has given the world a lot - including the immortal waltz. But there are still many things that can be considered typically Austrian, such as Kaiserschmarrn pancakes or the cozy wine taverns. Austrian wines are just as popular as apricot schnapps - both of which are popular vacation souvenirs. This is a great way to bring a little vacation home to your loved ones.
