A resident's perspective on Kitzbühel: Sybille Beckenbauer
Kitzbühel is internationally renowned as one of the most important areas for winter sports. But the Kitzbühel Alps are also becoming increasingly popular as a golfing region.
Around 15 years ago, the trend of using golf courses for tourism developed in Tirol. Around 1990, mainly 9-hole courses were sighted in Kitzbühel. Nowadays, these golf courses are being expanded and developed into new 27-hole courses. The first Tyrolean golf courses were created in Achensee and Igls. Two golf courses were built between 1934 and 1935. In 1941, one golf course had to be converted back into agricultural land due to the war. It was only after 1954 that the number of golf courses was increased again. In 2009 there were eighteen golf courses in Tirol. The number of golfers has also increased massively in recent years. In 1983, only around 0.2% of the Tyrolean population played golf. This figure had risen to over 1.5% by 2006 and has continued to rise ever since.

The Kitzbühel Golf Club is the oldest golf course in the town. The course is located in the middle of the town and offers a challenging 9-hole golf course. Playing golf at GC Kitzbühel feels like playing in a castle park, but in the midst of a magnificent Alpine backdrop. The Arosa Golf Resort is directly adjacent to the golf course.
The Eichenheim Golf Club is the 18-hole championship course in Kitzbühel. The golf course is located directly next to the Grand Tirolia Kitzbühel golf hotel.
The Schwarzsee Golf Club is located on the outskirts of Kitzbühel. The special thing about the Schwarzsee Golf Club is the view of the Wilder Kaiser, the Hahnenkamm and the mousetrap of the famous "Streif" downhill run. A 6,104 meter long 18-hole golf course offers a challenge for every golfer.
The Golf- und Landclub Rasmushof offers a 9-hole short course consisting of only par-3 holes. The golf course is located right at the foot of the famous "Streif" downhill run next to the Golfhotel Rasmushof.
There is a large selection of golf hotels in the immediate vicinity of the golf courses. The hotels have dedicated themselves to a rural style in keeping with their surroundings. Tyrolean farmhouse bread is also very popular. Kitzbühel is also famous for its delicious Kaiserschmarrn pancake, made from pancake dough and served with raisins and almonds.
