In addition to the second largest steppe lake in Europe, Burgenland offers its guests an unmistakable natural backdrop with wide plains, rolling hills, forest and meadow landscapes. The ideal climatic and scenic conditions have made Burgenland a popular destination for golfers in recent years.
Golf in Burgenland has a history. It has been around 24 years since the first golf ball was teed off at Donnerskirchen Golf Club. Today, golf attracts more than 100,000 guests to the region every year. While this sport was still considered elitist and unaffordable for the average citizen back then, it has developed into the sport that attracts the most overnight stays. Added to this are the jobs that golf creates in Burgenland. At 120 hectares, the course in Stegersbach is the largest in Austria. Around 17 greenkeepers are on duty here every day to ensure that golfers enjoy optimum conditions. Reiters Golfschaukel Stegersbach Lafnitztal also provides for the next generation of golfers on the golf courses in Burgenland with the first golf academy. In addition to the first and largest golf club, Sonnengolf Lutzmannsburg also offers a golfing experience for the whole family. A perfect practice facility is available at Reiters Golf & Country Club Bad Tatzmannsdorf and the Rudersdorf-Loipersdorf thermal spa golf course has a particularly long summer playing season thanks to the mild climate.
In recent years, Burgenland has succeeded perfectly in establishing itself as a popular vacation destination in Austria. This has been achieved in part thanks to the successful interaction between the golf clubs in Burgenland and the local thermal spas. Five different thermal spa landscapes offer guests every comfort and relaxation. From a quiet oasis of well-being to a lively family paradise, everything that holidaymakers could wish for is available here. But the "Golf & Thermenland" is also extremely popular with nature lovers. Lake Neusiedl has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since December 2001. The landscape around this lake is a special feature that is home to a variety of plants and animals. There is also a rich archaeological heritage that characterizes the villages around the lake. In terms of sport, the lake is particularly popular with surfers and kit surfers due to its wind conditions.
The enchanting Burgenland landscape is ideal for cycling, hiking or Nordic walking thanks to its network of marked trails. Guided hikes lead along themed trails and nature trails through the nature parks and present museums and quaint old wine cellars. All those who are interested in culture will find an extensive program in Burgenland, ranging from opera and operetta to festivals. Annual highlights include the Lake Festival in Mörbisch and the Opera Festival, which takes place in the St. Margarethen quarry. The rock festival Nova Rock also attracts thousands of visitors to the small province every year. Numerous sights, palaces and castles round off the leisure activities on offer.
Burgenland is largely dominated by the Pannonian climate. Due to the reduced influence of Atlantic and Mediterranean currents, it is relatively dry and warm in this region. In principle, a trip to Burgenland is attractive at any time of year, but the months from March to September are the most popular. The golf courses in Burgenland are also in season at this time. Spa vacations are particularly appealing in winter to escape the cold for a few days. Sports enthusiasts will prefer spring and fall. The region can be reached by car via the A1, the Westautobahn, the A3, the Südostautobahn or the A4, the Ostautobahn. Vienna Schwechat Airport is between 20 minutes and around 1.5 hours away, depending on the destination, and is also easily accessible by public transport.
In addition to sights, culture and sporting opportunities, a visit to the eastern Austrian region also offers outstanding culinary delights. Burgenland's wine is world-famous, produced by hundreds of young and motivated winegrowers. Today, this young generation of winegrowers delivers exceptional quality that makes you sit up and take notice. The region's innkeepers also prepare high-quality delicacies using the special ingredients that Burgenland has to offer. Specialties include freshly caught fish from Lake Neusiedl, Pannonian Mangalitza pork, southern Burgenland pasture goose and Zickental moor ox. As small as this province in the east of Austria may be, it offers its guests a varied program, exciting excursion destinations, wonderful Burgenland golf courses and excellent cuisine. Guests simply have to feel at home here.
