One of the most popular vacation regions in Turkey is the Turkish Riviera, which stretches between Antalya in the west and Cape Anamur in the east on the south coast of Turkey. Only about thirty kilometers from Antalya lies the coastal town of Belek, which has developed into a tourist stronghold. In fact, the over 100,000 inhabitants of the town live mainly from tourism.
Belek is a golfer's paradise. The modern and up-and-coming resort is perfectly tailored to the sport of golf, which is of paramount importance here. Although golf has been a popular sport in Turkey for many decades, the destination of Belek has only recently been activated. The first golf course in Belek, the 9-hole course that still exists today, was inaugurated in 1996 and was quickly followed by many more courses.
Today, with 15 golf courses and 11 golf clubs, Belek is one of the most popular golf destinations in the whole of Europe. What is remarkable about Belek as a golf destination is the fact that almost all golf courses can be easily reached by car from the respective hotels in just a few minutes. Golf tourists will find 18-hole courses as well as 27-hole courses, and a 9-hole course completes the almost unrivaled offer. In Belek, golf tourists will find a top-class offering that meets even the highest demands. The exclusive range is rounded off by the absolutely fantastic climate and the endless fine sandy beaches of the Turkish Riviera, which invite you to relax and unwind with their crystal-clear water and evergreen pine forests. Here is a travel guide from a Golf Post author.
Turkey can look back on an eventful and interesting history, the several thousand year old culture has left its mark not only in the form of unique architectural monuments, but above all in the way of life and the traditions that are still cultivated today. However, tradition does not stand in the way of progress, and Turkey today has a very positive attitude towards tourism. Regions such as the Turkish Riviera are a real magnet for visitors, and golfing in Belek has long since ceased to be an insider tip.
Although the region is experiencing an unimaginable tourist boom, the villages and towns in the hinterland in particular have retained their original character. Here, visitors can experience genuine hospitality, sample authentic regional cuisine and find breathtaking views of unique landscapes or impressive monuments at every turn. While the hotel buildings line the coast like pearls on a string, all vying for the favor of guests with service and all-in packages, you can also easily immerse yourself in a completely different, relaxing atmosphere - just a few steps away from the tourist hustle and bustle. This alone makes the region ideal for a golf vacation: Here, experiencing nature and original hospitality combine with the sporting experience to create an unforgettable vacation.
The best time to travel is in the months of May and June and in the fall, from September to November. At this time, it is still very warm on the south coast of Turkey and the weather is extremely pleasant for swimming. In midsummer, i.e. July and August, it can get very hot and the locals like to retreat to the cooler mountains during these months. Nevertheless, these two months are the peak season and prices are accordingly high. From this point of view, too, a stay in early summer or fall is preferable. The climate is very friendly, warm, sunny and dry summers are the rule. Winter with snowfall is only experienced - if at all - in the higher mountain regions. Vacationers have to adjust to the different time zone, in Turkey you have to add an hour, when it is 8.00 a.m. in Germany, the clock strikes 9.00 a.m. in Turkey.
Turkey 's currency is the new Turkish lira, which is divided into kuruş (100 kuruş = 1 new lira). However, holidaymakers can usually also pay in euros without any problems, at least in the tourist strongholds such as Belek. However, it makes more sense to exchange at an official exchange office at a favorable rate. You can pay with an EC card and also withdraw cash, but it is strongly recommended that you only withdraw cash from ATMs, as the exchange offices sometimes charge exorbitant fees.
The Turkish Riviera is easiest and quickest to reach by plane from Germany, with direct flights to Antalya from most German airports. The official language in Turkey is Turkish, but in the tourist centers, including Belek, English and German are also understood and spoken, so there are usually no communication problems.
No special vaccinations are recommended for a trip to Turkey. If medical treatment is necessary, it must be paid for locally and settled with the health insurance company at home in Germany. German citizens need a valid identity card or passport to enter Turkey. On entering the country, tourists are issued with a document that must be kept carefully until they leave the country and presented on departure. Stones and fossils, even if they have been officially purchased, may not be taken out of the country as souvenirs.
