The Kingdom of Thailand is located in Southeast Asia. It not only borders Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia and Malaysia, but also has extensive coastlines on the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand. It is no coincidence that the so-called "Land of Smiles" is a popular vacation destination; the abundance of golf courses also makes it perfect for an extended golf vacation.
The first things that come to mind when you think of Thailand are sun, beaches and palm trees. The tropical climate is particularly pleasant here when winter has arrived in our latitudes - from November to March is the best time to travel to Thailand in the middle of the cold season.
Thailand is therefore one of the ideal destinations for the winter escape of the keen golfer. Well over 200 golf courses, some of them designed by well-known golf course designers, are waiting to be played. Golfers of all levels, from beginners to experts, will find the right offer at a good price-performance ratio. What's more, the Thai people are true masters of hospitality, so a vacation away from the course is also a pure pleasure.
Not only the white beaches and the azure sea should be seen in Thailand, some other places are also worth a trip. For example, the grand palace in the capital Bangkok, which is one of the country's most popular sights. If you have at least enough time for a day trip and are staying in Bangkok or the surrounding area, you should visit Khao Yai National Park, Thailand's first national park. Less than 200 km from Bangkok, you can observe elephants in the wild here.
A piece of Thai history can be admired in historic Sukhothai, a former capital of the country. The ruins of the ancient city, located a few kilometers west of today's Sukhothai, offer an excellent location for spectacular vacation photos and are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
While the average temperature in the south of Thailand is 28°C, it is only 19°C on average at the coolest point in the north of the country. The best months for a golf vacation in Thailand are November to March, at this time of year it rains on average only three to five days a month.
The local currency is the Thai baht. The cheapest way to pay in Thailand is usually with cash. Some German banks offer free credit cards that can be used to withdraw money from Thai ATMs free of charge, and some even reimburse the fees charged when using ATMs. You can also pay by credit card or Maestro card in many places. In any case, it is important to choose the baht as the currency and not the euro. The baht is usually the cheaper alternative.
Vacationers from Germany generally do not need a visa for their golf trips to Thailand.
A prepaid card from a Thai provider is particularly worthwhile for all those who do not want to do without the Internet abroad, even outside the hotel WLAN. The purchase is also worthwhile for making phone calls. The SIM card can also be purchased via Amazon before the start of the trip, but is then more expensive.
The official language in Thailand is Thai. However, English is usually also spoken, especially in the vacation regions.
The usual precautionary measures such as a well-stocked first-aid kit, the necessary vaccinations and caution with tap water also apply to a golf vacation in Thailand. Detailed up-to-date information can be obtained from the relevant authorities.
