About Baltic coast

Brief introduction to the region

The German Baltic Sea coast is a popular vacation destination, especially for beach vacationers. The German Baltic Sea coast stretches from the Flensburg Fjord in the western part via the Fischland-Darß Zingst peninsula to the Polish border on Usedom. The main reason why this area is so popular is because it is so varied. The Baltic Sea is home to bustling seaside resorts, romantic thatched fishermen's houses, striking cliffs and endless sandy beaches.

Golfing on the Baltic Sea

In addition to numerous other sporting activities, golfing on the Baltic Sea is becoming increasingly popular. Golf hotels and golf clubs are now a dime a dozen here. The Fehmarn Golf Park, the Balmer See Golf Club and the Seeschlösschen golf course on Timmendorfer Strand are particularly recommended golf clubs on the Baltic Sea. However, golf courses on the Baltic Sea can also be found in numerous other towns. Between the traditional seaside resorts of Heiligendamm and Kühlungsborn is another popular property, the Ostsee Golf Resort Wittenbeck. With its attractive 18-hole golf course, attractive architecture and direct view of the sea, this property is particularly popular. If you are traveling in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, you should not miss out on the Golfcard. It entitles you to a whopping 30 percent discount at eight partner golf courses.

Cultural background

The Baltic Sea offers its guests not only beautiful nature but also countless cultural highlights, above all the many museums. One particularly beautiful example is the Viking Museum Haithabu.

Nature & other activities at the Baltic Sea

Most holidaymakers spend their vacation at the Baltic Sea to spend a few relaxing days on the beach. Families with children in particular are often found on the mostly gently sloping sandy beaches of the Baltic Sea. However, active vacationers also get their money's worth on the Baltic Sea. You can explore the area particularly well by bike; there are plenty of well-signposted cycle paths along the Baltic Sea coast. Some of these paths lead directly along the sea and offer fantastic views. The Baltic Sea Coast Cycle Route is certainly the best-known cycle route in the region, but the Berlin-Usedom Cycle Route and the Störtebeker Tour are also highly recommended.

Interesting leisure activities or excursion destinations

You can spend your free time actively at the Baltic Sea and discover the area on long hikes or bike tours when the weather is nice. Numerous spas on the Baltic Sea also ensure that you won't get bored even when the weather is bad. There are also countless sights and excursion destinations that seem perfect for a day trip. The Hansapark in Sierksdorf, for example, is an ideal excursion destination for the whole family and the Rügenpark Gingst is also not to be missed. Another characteristic feature of the Baltic Sea are the countless lighthouses, all of which are popular photo motifs.

The best time to visit the Baltic Sea

June to September is the best time to visit the German Baltic Sea coast. However, the stormy fall and cold winter months also have their charm on the Baltic Sea coast. Here you can really take a deep breath and let the wind blow around your nose.

Getting to the Baltic Sea

If you want to spend your vacation on the Baltic Sea, you should always head north by car. The Baltic Sea islands of Rügen and Usedom are also connected to the mainland and are therefore easily accessible. The A1, A7 and A20 highways lead straight to the Baltic Sea coast. If you want to get to Usedom quickly, you can even consider traveling by plane, as there is an airport in Heringsdorf on Usedom.

What culinary specialties does the Baltic Sea offer?

The culinary specialties of the region are not to be missed. Fresh fish is on the menu in almost every restaurant. Maritime influences can be discovered in numerous dishes, such as Doberan fish soup, Stralsund fish stew or herring potatoes from Sassnitz.
