Golfing Region Upper Bavaria

The administrative district of Upper Bavaria extends around the Bavarian capital of Munich from the district of Eichstädt in the north to the border with Austria in the south between the districts of Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Berchtesgadener Land. More than 80 golf courses, of which around 30 are public, are available to members of the more than 50 golf clubs in Upper Bavaria. Some of them have joined forces to make even better use of this popular leisure sport for tourists. Golfers from Germany and abroad take part in tournaments and events offered in the annual calendar of events published by the Bavarian Golf Association. Upper Bavaria's tourist highlights

All golf courses in Upper Bavaria also offer numerous accommodation options in the immediate vicinity, ranging from luxury hotels to modern vacation apartments. From there, it is always possible to treat your golf clubs to a day of rest every now and then and visit one of the many excursion destinations available. Lake Chiemsee offers its own world of experiences with its islands of Frauenchiemsee and Herrenchiemsee. While the former, with its Frauenwörth monastery complex, is a real gem without any traffic noise, the New Palace on Herrenchiemsee, large parts of which remain unfinished, attracts visitors to its state rooms completed under King Ludwig II and to the palace park. Other architectural highlights undoubtedly include the Wieskirche church in Steingaden with its magnificent dome frescoes and splendid rococo interior, as well as Nymphenburg Castle and Schleißheim Palace in Munich.

On the other hand, if you want to get up high, you can take the Zugspitzbahn and Gletscherbahn cable cars from Garmisch to the highest peak in Germany.

A trip to Munich can be combined with an unforgettable shopping experience as well as a relaxing stroll through the famous English Garden.

Pork knuckle is a must

In addition to Bavarian beer and tasty cheese and the white sausage with sweet mustard and pretzels, which is not to everyone's taste, spicy Kässpätzle, liver dumpling soup and a hearty knuckle of pork are on almost every menu.

The best time to visit

The months from May to September are recommended as the best time to visit Upper Bavaria, where golf should not be neglected. This is when the average daily temperatures are usually above +15°C. However, the heaviest rainfall can also be expected during this period, although it is often only short-lived.

Getting to this southernmost region of Germany should not be a problem, as it is quite easy to get here via Munich Airport as well as the well-developed rail and highway network around Munich.
