Golfing on the Balearic island is possible almost all year round. Even in the German spring, it is ideal for a short golf trip - especially as the island is only a two-hour flight from Germany. Mallorca offers a wide range of golf courses and hotels for golfers of all levels.
With its 24 golf courses, the Balearic island of Mallorca offers golf fans the opportunity to indulge in golf in a privileged natural setting. The golf destinations are spread across the entire island and almost all offer magnificent views.
The majority of the golf courses in Mallorca are in close proximity to the capital Palma de Mallorca (approx. 15 minutes). There is no course that does not blend effortlessly into the beautiful Mallorcan landscape, but real highlights are the golf courses Club de Golf Alcanada, Son Gual Golf, Capdepera Golf, Son Vida Golf and Golf de Andratx. The mixture of beautiful scenery, outstanding courses and wonderful golf hotels is the hallmark of a golf vacation on Mallorca.
In the high season, it is definitely advisable to book tee times in advance, i.e. before your vacation from Germany. This can be done relatively easily via the internet or telephone or via the golf hotel. In the low season, you should also secure your tee time online or by phone. In winter, however, everything can usually be arranged spontaneously on site.
The price range for 18 holes is between 70 euros (for example Son Servera in the north) and 160 euros - for the most expensive courses Son Muntaner and T-Club Poniente. On the other hand, you can play what is probably the best course on Mallorca in Son Gual for "just" 140 euros in the high season. For the majority of courses, you can expect to pay between 80 and 95 euros for 18 holes. But there are also cheaper alternatives. The Son Quint pitch and putt course is aimed at beginners and students and is also accessible without a license to play. Here, 9 holes only cost around 13 euros.
If you buy the Mallorca Golfcard for 119 euros, you can play on 16 courses (Alcanada, Bendinat, Andratx, Canyamel, Capdepera, Maioris, Puntiro, Pula, Santa Ponca I, Son Antem East/West, Son Muntaner, Servera, Son Quint, Son Vida, Quint Executive) according to the "2 for 1" principle - in other words: two people can play, but only one of them has to pay the green fee.
Golf equipment can be rented cheaply from almost every club on the island. Everything from the latest club lines from Srixon to TaylorMade is on offer here, and club sets are often regularly replaced. Almost all courses also stock left-handed clubs. On some courses on the north side of the island, the cost of a complete set of clubs for hire is a reasonable 12 euros, but nowhere else on Mallorca does the equipment cost more than 35 euros.
Most airlines that fly to Mallorca from German airports (for example Condor, Germanwings and Ryanair) charge around 50 euros for the additional golf bag in your luggage. If you want it cheaper, you can use your free baggage allowance with Air Berlin, for example, to transport your own equipment if it does not exceed the weight limit. Sometimes there are also discounts if the golf bag is registered particularly far in advance or via the Internet. In the low season, German airlines fly to Mallorca at least once a day. In the high season, several times a day.
Basically, Mallorca is influenced by the typical Mediterranean climate, so summers are very warm and dry, while winters have cool temperatures of around 10°C on average and frequent rainfall. In the months of July/August, temperatures rise to over 30°C, especially in the central highlands of the island, and often reach the 40°C mark, whereas a pleasant sea breeze on the coast provides a significant moderation. The spring and fall are particularly scenic. When the almond blossom begins at the end of January, Mallorca shines in a sea of white flowers. The fruit tree blossom in March is a worthy continuation of this phase of awakening nature.
During late summer and early fall, the island's unique nature can still be explored with dry feet in pleasant temperatures of around 20 °C, before the rainy season gradually begins in October. The ideal time for golfers who want to play in pleasant temperatures and discover the island at the same time is therefore spring or the months of September/October. The almond blossom is not only attractive from a scenic point of view, but the golf courses are also less frequented at this time.
Many hotels offer golf packages, which often include a free shuttle service to various golf courses on the island. This is the case, for example, at the Sheraton Arabella courses Son Vida, Son Muntaner and Son Quint as well as at the Marriott courses Son Antem Est and West. If you don't want to stick to the shuttle times and the usually limited number of spaces on offer, or simply want to see other parts of the island, you can hire a car. Here, too, there are various offers where the car is already included in the price of the trip. For the courses in the north (Capdepera, Canyamel, Son Servera and Pula) it is definitely advisable to hire a car.
Anyone traveling to Mallorca to play golf is usually also interested in nice accommodation. Although some golfers now also have a vacation apartment on the island, the majority of tourists prefer to stay in one of the many great golf hotels.
In addition to a large number of (golf) hotels, camping enthusiasts also have the option of staying in a bungalow, tent or caravan on one of the many campsites on Mallorca. If you would like to save even more money in comparison, you can stay in one of the many hostels - however, if you are staying in a shared room, you should always make sure that your golf bag is secure (with a lockable locker or similar).
Most golf courses are located on the west coast of the island. If you want to play on the Golf Poniente and Golf Santa Ponsa courses, you should stay in the triangle formed by the coastal towns of Santa Ponsa, El Toro and Son Ferrer. Real Golf de Benidat and Golf de Andratx are also located a little way up the coast. Golf Son Muntaner, Son Vida and Son Quint Golf are located in the immediate vicinity of Palma de Mallorca. A little further away are Golf Son Termens in the north and the west and east courses of Son Antem. There are also a number of courses on the eastern coast of the island from Costa dels Pins to Pedruscada. Those who stay here can tee off on the nearby courses of Capdepera, Canyamel, Pula Golf and Son Servera.
Culture lovers will not miss out on Mallorca either. Good food, delicious wine and good shopping are just as standard as the well-maintained golf courses on the island.
The numerous museums and art galleries bear witness to a great cultural wealth with their various exhibitions on Mallorcan history, art and literature. Sights such as the Palacio Real, Bellver Castle, Art Nouveau buildings and monasteries as well as Palma Cathedral are just a few examples of the extraordinary architectural diversity. Mallorca's two mountain ranges, the Serra de Tramuntana and the Serres de Llevant, characterize the island's landscape and, together with the diverse nature, form beautiful hiking areas. The caves of Porto Cristo and Artà and the Roman ruins of Pollentia in Alcúdia are also well worth a visit. Mallorca also has numerous hidden bays with beautiful sandy beaches, as well as many museums and monasteries.
Mallorcan cuisine has a Mediterranean character throughout. Mallorcan meals, whether at lunchtime or in the evening, consist of at least three courses and can therefore take quite a long time. You will most often find rice dishes on the menu, as well as fresh fish, pork or lamb and lots of vegetables. Of course, the typical Spanish paella is also a must. You will also find small delicacies such as tapas or tortillas in almost every bar. There is good Spanish beer or wine to drink.
The best shopping opportunities in Mallorca can be found in the capital Palma. The city's most prestigious shopping streets are Avinguda/Avenida Jaime III and Passeig/Paseo Borne, but don't miss the small side streets. Palma's two market halls, Olivar and Santa Catalina, are a paradise for gourmets. In most resorts outside Palma there are stores selling souvenirs and typical vacation items. The larger town of Manacor is located in the east of the island and is famous for its pearls.
The Balearic island of Mallorca has an excellent infrastructure. After entering the country without any problems, you will often find a free hotspot for mobile internet use.
