About Berlin

One of the finest addresses among golf destinations in Germany: the Berlin Wannsee Golf and Country Club, founded in 1895, impresses with its exclusivity and quality and enjoys a nationwide reputation. Located in the south-west of Berlin, the 27-hole golf course offers both a sporting challenge and relaxing tranquillity, not least thanks to its successful embedding in the Brandenburg forest landscape.

Golfing in Berlin is appealing because it offers a broad spectrum to tee off on; from elite to non-conformist. From traditional golf clubs to experimental tee-offs.

Tip: Anyone staying at the Berlin Marriott Hotel receives a free green fee for the Golf- und Land-Club Wannsee.

Golfing in Berlin is diverse

One look at the (golf) map and it's clear: Berlin is golfing. In addition to the Wannsee course in the south-west of the city, Berlin is surrounded by golf courses. The highlight: many courses can be reached by bus or train. So if you see golfers heaving their bags through the crowds at rush hour, don't be surprised. Within an hour, you can be teeing off at the Mahlow, Stolper Heide or Blankenburg golf clubs. The latter has made a name for itself with the Pay & Play concept and is a golf course for everyone. Drive there, pay and play, even without a regular club membership. The course brings to life the idea of making golf accessible to a wider public. The proximity to the city in particular - it only takes 30 to 35 minutes to get there - creates the opportunity for a quick round of golf. You can play the 18-hole Sepp-Maier course, an extremely attractive 9-hole course at Fließ and a 6-hole course for short game training or beginners.

Golfing in the vicinity of Berlin

A little further out, but still within an hour's drive, you can reach the Kallin golf course following the B273 to the northwest. A trip to the east is also worthwhile, where the Seddiner See Golf and Country Club is located near Potsdam. And in the north, the Prenden Golf Club has a worthwhile course. My first 18-hole experience. Dropped with a 112 - I'm not finished with you yet!

The courses of the Sporting Club Berlin at the A-Rosa Resort on Scharmützelsee deserve a special mention. The association of golfing footballers (Gofus) has quite understandably found its golfing home here. The Nick Faldo course, with its links golf feel and well over 100 Scottish-style pot bunkers, is one of the most challenging courses in Germany and was under discussion as a venue during the unspeakable Ryder Cup campaign. The adjoining Arnold Palmer course is not only a feast for the eyes in terms of design and maintenance, but also offers maximum enjoyment of the game. The second nine in particular offers pure parkland flair. An old tree population and domed fairways as well as elevated greens are picturesquely interrupted by small streams. The 11th has received an award for the most beautiful par-3 in the country. Both courses regularly occupy top places in the rankings of specialist magazines, and rightly so.

Berlin - also a paradise for urban golf

It's not just the golf courses in and around Berlin that create space for drives and pitches. With 30 percent green space and expansive parks, the city is peppered with fairways. Treptower Park in particular offers a tree-lined aisle measuring a good 100 by 300 meters. In foggy weather or light rain, you can safely unpack your club. From the banks of the Spree, it is easy to play the buoys and if you approach them accurately, you will be rewarded with a pleasant "clang", including the curious and interested glances of passers-by.

An old brick plateau rises out of the river near the East Side Gallery in Friedrichshain. A prankster who doesn't immediately think: island green! If you don't want to use your lake balls, you can chip a little in the shadow of the O2 Arena, pitch across Tempelhofer Feld or make use of the space offered by old industrial wastelands. So it's always worth having a bat with you. If you don't have a club to hand or a glove is full of holes, the best place to buy golf equipment is at Golf-Berlin-Mitte. Patrick will be happy to advise you and you can hit a few balls in the in-house simulator and test the equipment.

A daring challenge awaits the urban ball tamer on Warschauer Straße in Friedrichshain. The ball is hit from a small green area directly on the busy street. The ball goes blindly over the railroad tracks, which are located on a raised track, to find an equally small green measuring 20 by 20 meters on the other side. 140 meters, tiger line, risk and a little madness. Never again, even if the shot was successful. However, fluttering nerves on the first tee have been a thing of the past ever since. Those who like to lounge around can tee off in the sophisticated Capitol Yard Golf Lounge on the Spree or visit the indoor golf center on Ku'damm. You can enjoy a glass of bubbly or a beer and watch Pebble Beach on the big screen. Görlitzer Park in Kreuzberg is home to a black light mini golf course. The lovingly designed, individually carpeted courses are great fun and it never hurts to practice your putting. Berlin and an airport? That's one thing. But the golf here is on a world-class level.
