Teignmouth Golf Club Celebrates Centenary Year with Thrilling Seniors Club Championship

Teignmouth Golf Club, in their Centenary Year, held their Seniors Club Championship on 10 and 11 June
On both days the players contended with a strong breeze in dry and bouncy conditions which made club selection all important.
55 competitors set off on Day One and the best Gross Score came from Colin Papworth playing off a Handicap of 1 who shot 75 which included 3 Birdies. He was followed by Mark Fleming with a 77 on count back from Mark Ivy a new member on 77.
The best Nett Score was a splendid 67 from Mark Fleming followed by new member Charlie Yates with 69 and Mark Ivy with a 71.
On Day Two Colin Papworth produced another very good round which again included 3 Birdies for a 74 and a total of 149 to winj the Championship and the Tony McHale Trophy.
It has been quite a year for the Papworth family as Son, Tom, won the Teignmouth Club Championship last July.
The runner up was Board Member Nick James with scores of 78 and 76 for 154. In third place was the evergreen Richard Wilson with 83 and 78 for 161 pipping defending Champion Mark Haskell on count back.
The winner of the Nett Competition for the Alan Osborne Trophy was Mark Fleming with Nett scores of 67 and 75 for 142. In second place was Richard Wilson on 145 with 75 and 70 on count back from Martin Yeo 145 with rounds of 74 and 71.
Special mention goes to Ian Snell believed to be oldest competitor who finished a gallant fifth on count back in the Nett Competition with 72 and 74 for 146.
The Course which provided such a challenge to all competitors was in splendid condition and its growing reputation has been recognised this year as Teignmouth Golf Club was chosen by Devon County Golf to hold last months Devon County Championships and in August England Golf have chosen Teignmouth to host the England Boys County Championships from 25 to 28 August.
