Patrick McGhie wins the Summer Cup
In almost Summer conditions, a great turnout of 114 players took part in the Summer Cup. In a very tight finish an incredible 31 players finished within 5 shots of the winner. Holding his nerve to win by a shot was Patrick McGhie with a fine 67 (77-10). Patrick finished one ahead of 4 players and 2 ahead of a further 3. A total of 21 players scored par or better.
Patrick got off to the perfect start with a nett eagle at the 1stfollowed by a nett birdie at the 2nd. He turned in 4 under nett then had further nett birdies at the 11th and 14th before a little wobble where he bogeyed 15 and 16 but held on to win thanks to his fantastic start. But all the drama took place just behind the winner with the four players who finished one behind on 68 sharing a nett eagle, a nett birdie and 2 nett bogeys between them on the 18th.
The four players who finished on 68 were Joey Strickland (82-14), Greg Dymock (72-4), Allan Maxwell (79-11) and Adrian Bowman (80-12). Joey took second place on countback, going out in 35 but it was his back nine of 32 that clinched second spot, thanks to a nett eagle on the 18th. Despite a bogey on the 18th, Greg finished in third, just ahead of Allan. Both were back in 33 but Greg covered the last 6 holes in 20 shots to Allan’s 21, Allan finishing bogey, bogey. Despite a birdie at 18, Adrian was back in 35 to finish in 5thplace. Adrian was 4 under nett after 5 holes but couldn’t keep it going.
Nine players had 2’s at the 15th winning £9.96 each. The winners were:
