Get to know a bit more about this month’s athlete partner Kelsey Stewart!
👉🏻Swipe through to follow her journey…
1. My first taste of competition!
2. I got my first Scotland junior caps when I was 15 at the British Schools Championships and Celtic Games which were held at my home track in Aberdeen - making the experience even more special.
3. Embracing all things Commonwealth Games in 2014!
4. My first indoor and outdoor senior internationals for Scotland in 2014/15, whilst sitting my Higher exams!
5. I made friends for life and had some amazing experiences whilst competing in the GB U20 and U23 teams. It has been brilliant to see some of them reach the pinnacle of the sport.
6. I ran a huge personal best to take my first British title as an U23 over 400m. Ken Hogg and his wife, the late Joyce Hogg, coached me for 9 years and played a huge part in shaping me into the person I am today. ‘A good coach can change a game. A great coach can change a life.’
7. The Commonwealth Games in Australia in 2018 was the coolest experience for a young athlete. Rubbing shoulders with the biggest names in sport in the athletes village was surreal. I also became teammates with Lynsey Sharp, who I took the selfie with in 2014!
8. In 2021 applied and was selected for a talent ID process for British Skeleton. I made it to the final 6 out of 250 girls and moved to bath to train full time. My journey came to an end due to a back mobility issue putting me at increased risk of concussion. The break from athletics felt needed and I came back to the sport feeling refreshed and stronger in the gym.
9. 2023 saw my worst injury to date. Whilst on a training camp, I felt my foot pop. It turned out to be a ruptured plantar fascia. The rehab was long and tough, and I didn’t know if it would ever return to its previous state. The ski erg machine became me and my boots best friend.
10. This year I have returned to the 400m start line and captained a Scotland team for the first time. I love athletics and feel so lucky to have the opportunities the sport gives me.
