Golf Resort Bad Griesbach, Beckenbauer Golf Course

There are very few golf courses in Germany that have hosted a professional tournament on the PGA European Tour. The Beckenbauer Golf Course in Penning is one of this exclusive club of courses that meet the high quality standards required for this.

The 18-hole course, designed by world-class golfer Bernhard Langer, hosted the Porsche European Open, one of the most prestigious professional tournaments in Europe, in 2015 and 2016, the Beckenbauer Golf Course was the venue for the Paul Lawrie Matchplay in 2017, and the European Tour also hosted its Challenge Tour three years in a row from 2013 to 2015. On all occasions, Europe's best golfers praised the Championship Course as a demanding test at international level, which impressed them with its technical challenge and excellent maintenance.

The 18-hole, par 72 course, named after soccer emperor Franz Beckenbauer and located in the immediate vicinity of the Porsche Golf Course, measures 6,500 meters from the champion tees and is the sporting flagship of the golf resort. Planned from the outset with the intention of being suitable for major championships, it is considered the most difficult course to play at the golf resort. The 18 holes, generously spread over 80 hectares, lead in two varied 9-hole loops through the floodplain landscape of the small river Rott.

The flat, easy-to-play course is characterized by a large number of water hazards. These come in the form of streams, ditches, flood troughs or ponds and require precision from the player both on the drive and on the approach shots. Water comes into play on 13 of the 18 holes, particularly spectacularly on holes 9 and 18, where a large pond gives the two greens, which are separated from the water by stone walls, an island character.

The up to 200-metre-long par-3 holes, strategically placed bunker tongues and interesting doglegs give the Beckenbauer Golf Course its sporting character. A real trademark of the championship course is also its first-class maintenance: a two-row sprinkler system guarantees imperial golfing pleasure on the hand-mown fairways and greens even in the height of summer.
