Designed by Frank Pennink and opened in 1973, the Aroeira Pines Classic (formerly known as Aroeira I) has been affectionately dubbed the 'Wentworth of Lisbon' by the British press, and it's easy to see why.
The course, which runs through tall pine avenues and is surrounded by wildlife and nature, is 6,650 yards long and requires accuracy and placement off the tee to maximize the chances of hitting the target greens in regulation.
The course hosted the Portuguese Open in 1996 and 1997 and hosted the prestigious European Men's Club Trophy in 2013, in addition to several Ladies' European Tour events.
The mild climate in Aroeira makes golf possible all year round. In addition to two 18-hole championship golf courses, Aroeira also offers self-catering apartments, a tropical swimming pool, tennis courts and a shopping center with a restaurant, supermarket and other stores.
The Aroeira Pines Classic is included in Golf World magazine's latest list of the 100 best golf courses in continental Europe.
Opened in April 2000, Aroeira Challenge (formerly known as Aroeira II) was designed by architect Donald Steel, who took care to meet the recommendations of the European Tour and create a course suitable for tournaments at the highest level.
With its 18 long greens bordering five large lakes and tees on every hole, the course can be played by all types of players.
The course has already hosted the Ladies European Tour Qualifying School and several editions of the Portuguese Ladies Opens.
