Race to Dubai: McIlroy Leads, Gumberg best US player

The Race to Dubai heats up on the DP World Tour, with McIlroy at the top of the rankings and the Americans chasing. Gumberg jumps after win to 15th place.

As the DP World Tour season advances, numerous tournaments have already been played, culminating recently with a thrilling victory by Rory McIlroy, who now stands atop the Race to Dubai rankings. Currently, five American golfers have made their presence felt within the top 120.
McIlroy Dominates, Americans in Pursuit
The Race to Dubai narrative this season features remarkable performances from top American players. Securing the 15th rank, Jordan Gumberg has accrued 510.8 points over 5 tournaments. With his win of the SDC Championships he was able to jump up a 182 places. Following, Johannes Veerman and Jordan Catlin are placed at 51st and 96th respectively.
Top Rankings Battle Intensifies
Delving into the pinnacle of the Race to Dubai rankings, Rory McIlroy leads with 1596 points from having just played two events, including a win of the Hero Dubai Desert Classic. The top five features international talents like Japan’s Rikuya Hoshino and Poland’s Adrian Meronk, who are at 1244 points and 1023 points respectively behing McIlroy.
How the DP World Tour Race to Dubai works
The Race to Dubai is the season ranking of the DP World Tour (former European Tour). The top 60 players in the Race to Dubai ranking are allowed to take part in the final play-off tournament of the former European Tour at the end of the season. The season ranking also determines who is allowed to play on the DP World Tour the following year. At each tournament, the players who make the cut collect points. The total number of points awarded at a tournament depends on the value of the event. Major tournaments earn the most points. For winning a DP World Tour tournament, the winner receives at least 460 points and a good 300,000 euros.
