PGA Tour: Field in focus - Travelers Championship

The Travelers Championship is one of the most popular tournaments on the PGA Tour calendar. It has been played since 1952 and every year it features one of the strongest fields of the year. This year at  TPC River Highlands we will see five of the top ten players in the world.

Who are the favorites?

Dustin Johnson

World number two and defending champion Dustin Johnson is the favorite for the win at this week’s Travelers Championship. So far in his career Johnson only once managed to successfully defend a title. Lost the top spot in the world after Rahm’s win at the U.S Open, but can get back to number one with a two-way T5 finish or better. Finished tied for 19th at Torrey Pines.

Brooks Koepka arrives at TPC River Highlands after another top 5 finish in a major. The American is T4 – MC – T2 – MC in his last four starts, but those two made cuts were in majors. Koepka’s last appearance in the tournament was in 2019 when he finished tied for 57th.

Bryson DeChambeau

Bryson DeChambeau was in the mix last Sunday at the U.S Open, but a poor run on the back nine dropped him to three over for the tournament and a shared 26th place on the final leaderboard. The American has played the Travelers Championship five times before and made the cut in all his visits to TPC River Highlands. In 2018, 2019 and 2020 DeChambeau finished inside the top 10.

Form-horse

Kevin Streelman

Kevin Streelman hasn’t won on the PGA Tour since June 2014 when he claimed the title exactly at the Travelers Championship. Last year Streelman finished solo second, only a shot behind the winner Dustin Johnson. The American is in good form and has been in the top 20 in his last four starts. Last week at the U.S Open Streelman finished tied for 15th.

Wildcard

Bubba Watson

Bubba Watson is ranked 61st in the world, but he hasn’t won on the PGA Tour since the 2018 Travelers Championship. His last top 10 in a full field PGA Tour event was last October at the ZOZO Championship @Sherwood and that's why I count him as a wildcard pick. Watson is a three-time Travelers Championship winner and has a T2 finish. He is the top earner in the tournament’s history. Last week at Torrey Pines Watson was in the mix after the first two days, but lost the momentum during the weekend and finished tied for 50th.
