The FedEx Cup is a championship trophy which was first awarded in 2017. The FedEx Cup is a season-long competition on the PGA Tour. Each tournament during the season gives points to the golfers based on their performance which are accumulated in the FedEx Cup Standing. After the end of the regular season the top 125 players at the FedEx Cup Standing qualify for the Playoffs. In 2021 there are three playoff events:
THE NORTHERN TRUST (Aug 19 - 22, 2021)

THE NORTHERN TRUST is the first FedEx Cup playoff of the season and it has a field of 125 golfers. The tournament is played over 72 holes with a cut after the second round. The top 70 golfers and ties play the weekend. The winner at THE Northern Trust will win 2,000 FedEx Cup points - four times more than a regular PGA Tour event.
BMW Championship (Aug 26 - 29, 2021)

Only the top 70 golfers on the FedEx Cup Standing after THE NORTHERN TRUST are eligible to play at the BMW Championship. There is no cut, all 70 golfers play the four rounds. The winner takes 2,000 FedEx Cup points.
TOUR Championship (Sep 2 - 5, 2021)

The TOUR Championship at East Lake Golf Club will put the end of the 2020/2021 PGA Tour season. Only the top 30 at the FedEx Cup Standing after the BMW Championship qualify for the TOUR Championship where a handicap system is used to make sure that the winner at the Tour Championship is also the FedEx Cup champion. The FedEx Cup points leader after the second Playoffs event (BMW Championship) begins the Tour Championship at 10-under par. The No. 2 player starts at 8 under. The No. 3 player starts at 7 under; the No. 4 player starts at 6 under; the No. 5 player starts at 5 under. Players 6-10 start at 4 under; players 11-15 start at 3 under; players 16-20 start at 2 under; players 21-25 start at 1 under; and players 26-30 start at even par. The player with the lowest aggregate score after 72 holes wins the TOUR Championship and the FedEx Cup. He will earn a bonus of $15 million which will be added to the paycheck for the win at the Tour Championship.
