This week's PGA Championship at The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island promise to challenge the strongest field of the years The 156-player field features 99 of the top 100 players in the current Official World Golf Rankings, but still some big names will be missing.
Tiger Woods

The 15-time major champion and four-time PGA Championship winner will miss this year edition of the tournament due to ongoing recovery following his serious car accident back in February. According to the latest updates Woods is at home and once the blood circulation gets back to normal in his injured foot the doctors will be able to set a timeline for Tiger's full recovery.
Have an @TigerWoods injury update, hearing TW at the point in the healing process where the next benchmark is for blood circulation to get back to normal in his injured right foot.

Once this happens recovery timelines will fall into place, currently in “wait and see” mode.
Woods hasn't played professional golf since The Masters last November where he finished tied for 38th.
Matthew Wolff

Surprisingly last Tuesday the PGA of America announced that Matthew Wolff (number 27 in the world) has withdrawn from this week’s PGA Championship. No reason was given for the withdrawal. Wolff hasn't posted a top 10 finish since mid October where he shared second place at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. Since then the 22-year-old American had a mix of withdrawals, missed cuts and poor results. His last appearance on tour was in November at the Masters where he was disqualified for signing an incorrect scorecard. Wolff made his PGA Championship debut last year at TPC Harding Park where the American shared fourth place.
Brandt Snedeker

We have used to see Brandt Snedeker on the first page of the leaderbard during the big tournaments, but that won't be the case this week. Snedeker, who has nine top 10s in majors, was not able to qualify for the event at Kiawah Island. The 2012 FedEx Cup champion hasn't won on the PGA Tour since August 2018. His last chance to qualify was last week's AT&T Byron Nelson where Snedeker shared 17th.
Graeme McDowell

Graeme McDowell is just another big name who is struggling with his game. The 2010 U.S Open champion posted only one top 10 in his last 30 starts and as a result dropped to 139th in the world. McDowell won his last PGA Tour title at the 2019 Corales Puntacana Resort and Club Championship which is an alternate event on the PGA Tour (opposite the WGC Match Play). From 15 appearances McDowell's best result at the PGA Championship is a shared 10th place.
Lucas Glover

Just like McDowel, Lucas Glover is another major champion who is searching for his best game. In 2009 the American shocked the golfing world with a win at the U.S Open at Bethpage. A couple of months later he finished fifth at the PGA Championship, but since then he is yet to post a top 10 in a major. Since his U.S Open win Glover's career has been like a Roller coaster. He dropped outside the top 600 in the world in 2014, but found a way to the right direction and currently sits 123, which unfortunately is still not enough for a place at this week's PGA Championship.
Vijay Singh

Vijay Singh is known as one of the hardest workers on the PGA Tour who is always eager to compete. He has an impressive record on the PGA Tour where has won twice and has another four top 10 finishes from 27 appearances. Recently we see the Fijian mainly on the PGA Tour Champions, but as a past champion he has the rights to play at Kiawah’s Ocean Course this week. However Vijay Singh withdrew from the tournament due to back injury.
Davis Love III

Like Singh, as a past champion Davis Love III has an exemption for the PGA Tour since he becomes 65-year old. The two-time USA Ryder Cup captain won his lone major title at the 1997 PGA Championship at Winged Foot Golf Club. Davis Love III has missed only three PGA Championships since his first appearance in 1986! The veteran misses this week action as he will undergo surgery on his right hip.
