Seven things to know about the new Olympic champion Xander Schauffele

1. Xander Schauffele's full name is Alexander Victor Schauffele

2. Schauffele was born in San Diego, California, but his parents are not native Americans. His father is from Germany while his mother is born in Taiwan, but grew up in Japan

3. He studied at San Diego State University where he graduated in 2015 with a degree in social sciences.

4. Xander Schauffele made his PGA Tour debut in January 2016 at the CareerBuilder Challenge where he missed the cut after rounds of 72, 71 and 67.

5. Schauffele made his majors debut at the 2017 U.S Open at Erin Hills where he finished tied for fifth.
